In the latest message to the Edwards faithful, Presidential hopeful John Edwards addressed what he hopes will be a transformational change for the United States.

Global poverty is not only a moral issue for the United States—it is a national security issue for the United States. If we solve it, we begin to create a world in which the ideologies of radical terrorism are overwhelmed by the values of education, democracy, and opportunity. Now that's transformational.

The hell with the U.S.'s poor, Edwards is setting his sights on reforming the world. So how does he want accomplish this?

We will launch a worldwide effort to bring primary education to every corner of the globe.

We can't adequately educated our own citizens, yet we want to educate the globe? Actually, now that I think about it, this isn't all that bad of an idea. If we can bring everybody else down to our level of education, our piss-poor public school system won't seem quite so bad.

We will invest in preventive health care through clean water and sanitation systems to give poor families a chance at healthy lives.

So giving people a sink and toilet will make them healthy? I know, there are many people throughout the world that don't have adequate sanitary infrastructures, but we're supposed to be the plumbers of the world.

We will provide the tools of local entrepreneurship and active citizenry that are the cornerstones of stable prosperity.

And just what the hell does this mean? We'll help them start their own businesses? We're going to jumpstart the economy of all Third World countries? While at the same time reducing our own 'carbon emissions'?

And we will create a cabinet level position in the White House to elevate all our national efforts at eradicating poverty worldwide.

And we're going to have Secretary of the Poor. So this will be the person responsible for taking our failed educational policies and inflicting them on their world.

Can anybody say socialism?

Mike Adams, criminology professor at University of North Caroline - Wilmington, posted an article on Townhall on 2/28/07, detailing a website run by Kent State professor Julio Pino. As Mike said in his article:

Yesterday afternoon, I logged on to the "Global War" blog (global-war.bloghi.com) of Associate Professor Julio Pino – a Muslim convert who teaches at Kent State University. The heading for the site used to read "The Worldwide Web of Jihad: Daily News from the Most Dangerous Muslim in America." Now it reads "Are You Prepared for Jihad?" IN THE NAME OF OBL. 2007: THE YEAR OF ISLAMIC VICTORY!"

This site has now been taken down, but replaced with one by Matthew Hundall, a senior political science major at Kent who calls Pino

Kent State, of course, is attempting to wash it's hands of the whole affair. The Dept. of History chair, John R. Jameson, has refused to return Mike Adam's phone calls. Pino has refused to appear on Fox News to discuss the matter, and refuses to answer Mike Adams' phone calls.

Sean Hannity had Sen. Joe Leiberman of Connecticut on his afternoon radio show today. Unfortunately I don't have any audio of it (I was driving home from work at the time), but Sen. Leiberman had some interesting things to say about the war in Iraq, support for the troops, and his thoughts on entering the war. Among them:

The U.S. was not the only country which believed that Saddam Hussein had WMD's, every other country was told the same thing by their intelligence agencies.
WMD's were not the only reason given for invading Iraq: Hussein was a dictator, he committed atrocities against his own people, he invaded soveriegn countries, etc.
Whether you agree with the invasion or not, the only responsible course is to continue the support for the war. The 'thousand cuts' that Rep. Murtha is attempting, the non-binding resolutions, the threat of de-funding the war all send the message to the troops that we're not supporting them as fully as we should.
He wouldn't be against voting for (and supporting) a Republican candidate for president in '08.

The above are not accurate quotes, but they are essentially his statements. He's said all of these things before, but it's nice to hear that not all the Democrats are against the war. He specifically mentioned famous Democrats in the past, like Scoop Jackson, FDR, JFK, etc.

The one thing that Sean did not ask him was whether he would consider switching parties; Sean spent too much time (in my opinion) asking the Senator to support a candidate now. Interesting interview, anyway.

Poor Little Amanda

Poor little Amanda... fired, er, I mean resigned from John Edwards campaign, is now whining about her site getting hit by 'spammers'. She posted a little diatribe on her website complaining about Catholics yelling at her. She happened to bring up the parable from the New Testament where Jesus is asked to stone an adulteress, and he says that "He who is without sin cast the first stone." I guess because of that a Christian isn't allowed to complain about somebody else. Here's part of her words of wisdom.

Granted, I don't think criticizing the church for policies that hurt families and even get people killed is a "sin", but my letter writers do. But I thought I'd bring up this story for two reasons. One, I've always been impressed by the subtext of the story. I suspect, strongly, that this story is part of the reason that Christianity was so attractive to women in its early days, because this sort of random misogynist scapegoating is all too real in a patriarchy, and this story must have touched a lot of women at the time, who would be impressed with Jesus' unwillingness to play into such misogyny. In fact, from everything I understand, much of the history of Christian misogyny is one 2,000 year long backlash against early female power in the church.

Oh yeah... the link above that she references? It's referring to Iran.

Update: After complaints, I decided to remove the name-calling, it doesn't accomplish anything. I still feel my original point is valid.

The furor over the Marcotte/McEwan blogging history is not dying down, and my guess is that it'll become more of an issue in the future. In fact, I'd say that by taking the actions he has, John Edwards is attempting to position himself as the Ned Lamont of the 2008 presidential race. I would bet he looked at the nutroot support given to Lamont with drool running down his chin, and saw his continued support of Marcotte/McEwan as the lynchpin in securing his own support.

Addressing the recent controversy regarding Amanda Marcotte and Melissa McEwan, John Edwards just issued a statement that basically says he doesn't want their type of vitriole associated with his campaign. He also said, however, that he believes "in giving everyone a fair shake". So apparently he gave them a good talking to, but will continue to keep them on his staff. This is probably the most politically expedient solution; try to appease the more moderate lefts, but keep the nutroots off his back by not getting rid of Marcotte and McEwan.

ISG: Our most important recommendations call for new and
enhanced diplomatic and political efforts in Iraq and the region

Translation: Start talks with Syria and Iran. Yeah, let's talk with some of the people who are doing their damnedest to perpetuate the problem.

ISG: If the situation continues to deteriorate, the consequences
could be severe. A slide toward chaos could trigger the collapse
of Iraq’s government and a humanitarian catastrophe. Neighboring
countries could intervene. Sunni-Shia clashes could
spread. Al Qaeda could win a propaganda victory and expand
its base of operations. The global standing of the United States
could be diminished.

Translation: We MUST win. Okay, this one I agree with. Above all, if we pull out of Iraq before the 'mission is accomplished' (to steal a phrase), it will only embolden terrorists worldwide.

ISG: This diplomatic effort should include
every country that has an interest in avoiding a chaotic
Iraq, including all of Iraq’s neighbors.

Translation: Yep, Syria and Iraq.

ISG: The United States cannot achieve its goals in the Middle

commitment by the United States to a comprehensive Arab-

Translation: Ah, good, I was wondering when they'd tie Israeli into the mix.

ISG: The Iraqi government should accelerate assuming responsibility
for Iraqi security by increasing the number and
quality of Iraqi Army brigades.

Translation: Make the Iraqi's more responsibile. I agree wholeheartedly.

ISG: As redeployment proceeds, military leaders should emphasize
training and education of forces that have returned to
the United States in order to restore the force to full combat
capability.

Translation: Now THIS is a good thing... once we bring our troops home, continue to upgrade our forces.

In total, 79 separate recommendations are contained in the report. Hopefully I'll have time to read the whole report over the next day or so.

Okay, in November. Maybe the Dems learned from the Foley scandal to not spring the surprise too early.

Rep. Tim Murphy(R), battling in the tightly contested PA CD-8 race, has had allegations brought against him yesterday by 'members of his staff'. He's been accused of forcing the staff "to help Murphy's re-election campaign instead of his constituents."

District office staff member Jayne O'Shaughnessy stated ""I just feel someone has to stand up and report it, because he's a congressman and we all need to look up to him, but he's breaking the rules." KDKA-TV's investigative reporter Andy Sheehan presented Rep. Murphy with documents, presumably from his district office, that direct staff workers to canvas door-to-door "all summer long", a direct violation of Congressional ethics rules. When confronted, Rep. Murphy took the documents from Mr. Sheehan and refused to return them.

Rep. Murphy neither confirmed or denied the allegations, but said he is going to seek a congressional investigation of his own conduct. But isn't it curious that this is only coming to light 4 flippin' days before the election. If the staff were directed to canvas door-to-door all summer, why only NOW is Ms. O'Shaughnessy speaking out?

O'Shaughnessy's title is "District Scheduler", a position she's held since April 2005. Some of the allgations include:

Members of his taxpayer-paid staff have been expected to have campaign materials with them at all times when accompanying the congressman, in case he wants to provide them to constituents.

In sending congressional staff such as unpaid interns to perform door-knocking and drop off official literature throughout the district this summer, they were instructed to stop only at the homes of registered voters.

Multiple staff members from the district office were instructed last December to devote their time to labeling, stuffing and mailing greeting cards to individuals who were campaign contributors of Mr. Murphy's. The postage and materials were paid by his campaign fund, but several staffers said they performed the functions in the middle of the government workday, rather than on their own time.

I'll try to keep up on this as time permits, and post any pertinent information.

The Sexual Orientation Regulations, soon to take effect in the U.K., makes it illegal "for anyone providing goods, services, facilities, education or public functions to discriminate on the grounds that someone is heterosexual, homosexual or bisexual." Sounds good, huh? But what happens when the lefts' desire for equality actually strips away someone elses rights?

This has got to stop. I'm all for equal rights; I've never discriminated against anyone based on their race, religion, skin color, or sexual preference. But the definition of discrimination should not include expressing my displeasure. If I want to hand out leaflets calling homosexuality a sin (not to worry, I don't); then damnit I should be allowed to do that. (Sounds kinda familiar, huh?)

The United States has been considered the "Great Satan" by the Moslem world. Now, it looks like Pope Benedict XVI, and by extension the Holy Catholic Church, will also be put on the Moslem most-hated list. While in Germany recently, the pope quoted a conversation between "a 14th century Byzantine Christian emperor and an educated Persian." Here's what the Pope said:

"The emperor comes to speak about the issue of jihad, holy war," the pope said. "He said, I quote, "Show me just what Mohammed brought that was new, and there you will find things only evil and inhuman, such as his command to spread by the sword the faith he preached," he quoted the emperor as saying."

Get it, you stupid Mooslems? The Pope didn't say these things, he was quoting the Byzantine emperor. And what's the reaction of the "Religion of Peace"? Try this! Or this!

One of my daily routines is to visit the good folks at HotAir. Every weekday they bring insightful information on various topics, mainly the War on Terror. Michele Malkin and crew work hard to keep the rest of informed on things we may not ever hear about. Well, today I saw something there that was just so vile and disgusting, it actually turns my stomach to think about it. (and that takes a lot).

You've probably heard about the guy in Brooklyn who recently was arrested for re-broadcasting Al Manar TV, which is a propaganda arm of Hizbollah. Well, Michelle, Bryan, and Allahpundit at HotAir took a look into some of the programming on Al Manar. One of the things they showed was a TV show that depicted a Jew (possibly Hassidic?) demanding the 'blood of a Christian boy'. A young boy was led into the room with fear in his eyes. The shot then switched to the young boy having his head forced over what looks like a bowl on the floor, with him crying and begging for help from his Mama. Next, the boys' cries suddenly stop, and we see blood spilling out on the floor. Yeah, them Jews are just SO bloodthirsty, constantly coming after the Christians for their insane, evil rituals.

Religion of Peace? My ass it's the religion of peace. Where the hell is CAIR in this? What about Michael Moore or Arianna Huffington, why don't they talk about this? No, they'd rather talk about how the levee's breaking is all Bush's fault.

Why, oh why, would a teacher talk to 9 and 10 year olds about abortion? Katherine McGuire, a fourth-grade teacher in Canonsburg, PA's Hills-Hendersonville Elementary School did just that. McGuire, in a social studies class, was explaining the voting process to her students when one student asked about abortion. This wacko teacher then decided to explain exactly how an abortion is performed; describing for the students how a needle is injected into the womb, then the fetus is sucked out and killed.

The teacher was suspended with pay, while the PA State Education Association is of course backing the teacher. Many parents are rightly upset with the teacher, and are demanding action. Read the full article here.

I've always heard some of the horror stories coming from countries that have a National Health Service, but never found a good source for some of the info.

Well, I just found a GREAT blog discussing national health care, and what can go wrong. Dr. Crippen, in his diary, relates what really happens on a day-by-day basis when you're saddled with socialized medicine.

Look, I'd love to see everyone in the U.S. have inexpensive access to quality medical care. But from everything I've read and heard (and I looked into this a fair amount back when Hillary tried to push this through her, er, Bill's White House), the dangers of a NHS far outweigh any apparent benefit. My son recently hyperextended his knee while playing basketball... he had an MRI appointment within 1 1/2 weeks (it's today, in fact). And his knee isn't all that bad... he can't straighten it as much as he should, but he can walk around on it (he limps a bit). He's not in any pain; it just stiffens up on him after sitting for awhile. So 1 1/2 weeks; hmm, not bad. How long would he have to wait if we had a socialized system like Canada or the U.K.?

Now this is really disgusting. The Sheaf, the student-run newspaper of the University of Saskatchewan, ran an editorial last week discussing the Mohammed cartoon controversy, along with their reasons for not running the cartoons. Specifically, they state that because of the violence shown by fanatics, they don't want to stoke the fires. But then they turn around and run (mistakenly, of course... yeah right!) a cartoon showing Jesus giving oral sex to a "capitalist pig". Just how do you make that mistake, anyway... is there no oversight from the editorial staff on what gets published?

Hmm, maybe it's time to rape and pillage!

Education in America

Our wonderful teacher unions are at it again... desperate to save their cushy, taxpayer-financed, difficult-to-fire-from jobs, they're attacking anyone who questions our public school system. Now it's John Stossel, of ABC's 20/20. John's had a series of tv and internet reports detailing some of the problems with America's education system. I'm sure everybody's heard the claims; U.S. students are falling behind in test scores, especially in the critical areas of math and science, when compared to the rest of the world; public schools are costing more money and delivering less product; school choice has worked in other countries and works here when it's attempted. I don't know the answers, and I don't know enough to say whether John (and many others) are right or wrong. I do know, from personal experience, that public school teachers run the gamut from caring, very intelligent, highly effective teachers to lazy, incompetent slobs doing just enough to keep their positions. How do I know this? I work for an education software company in the research department, and I regulary visit and observe public schools.

My point, however, is that the teacher unions just plain don't want to address the issues that John Stossel raises. Instead of addressing the issues, they're demonstrating today at ABC offices in New York, Chicago, and others. The organizers claim his reporting "so violates the democratic principles of open-mindedness, balance, and fairness we hold dear as educators of Social Studies, and so departs from the standards of objective and unbiased journalism...".

Violates the democratic principles of open-mindedness? What the hell are they talking about? Just because they don't agree with John's reporting? C'mon, gimmee a freaking break. And why haven't they addressed the concerns and questions that are raised? Teachers unions are in a purely defensive mode across the country; how about spending some of this energy improving school education instead of attacking critics?

Maybe the problem will take care of itself?

What is it with Hamas? Whether you're on the Palestinians or the Israeli's side, one thing is certain; Israel is not going to roll over and play dead. Yet Hamas refuses to take any steps to try to bring about a peaceful settlement of the situation.

Saw this post detailing yet more deaths directly attributable to the cartoon controversy, and radical Muslim's over-reactions to the issue. I guess I shouldn't be too harsh, though. Remember all the riots and mayhem when Piss Christ and Elephant Dung Mary were first released? Oh yeah, there weren't any.

The editors at Jyllands-Posten are in hiding; the cartoon creators dare not be seen in public; Danish missions have been attacked across the globe, many deaths have been directly caused by the cartoon controversy, but we're supposed to believe Islam is the "religion of peace"??? Yeah, right. More like this!

The dangers of universal health care?

I've always been divided on the issue of universal, government-sponsored health care. On the one hand, I hate to see anybody NOT get medical treatment they so desperately need. I've heard horror stories, however, about the dismal state of health care in countries like Canada and England; two glaring examples of national health care. Now I've run across this story about little Charlotte Wyatt of England. So what I'd like to know; would the decision have been any different in a country that doesn't have universal health care?

Okay, I don't normally enjoy pop music; my tastes run more towards classic rock, some alternative, but here's one video I really enjoy. It seems Muslim pop singer Deeyah is really pissing off the Muslim world with her latest video. (You've gotta have Quicktime installed to view it.) Deeyah's video "What will be?" deals with women's rights, which we ALL know is taboo in the Muslim religion. Women's rights? What are those? And apparently one music TV network (Asian B4U) has already pulled her video because of complaints. Well, I say the hell with them. Deaeyh, while I probably won't necessarily enjoy all of your music, I admire the guts and determination you're showing, and I applaud you for it. All the best, Deaeyh. (see some more info here).

Welcome to my blog; I'm new to the blogosphere, so if I make some snafu's, please forgive me!

HAH! Actually, I don't really care if you forgive me or not, and that's the main point of this site. I'm sick and tired of people telling me how we have to have 'tolerance' for others' views, lifestyle, religious choice, etc. I'm fed up with the US kowtowing to the Islamofascists. I may not be able to add anything to the already high-quality blogs out there, but what the hell, this is the perfect way for me to rant and rave.

I've thought about doing a blog for a while, but the idea really started to pick up steam with the Mohammed cartoon controversy. If you're curious, here're some great cartoons dealing with the whole controversy.
